Who said they did it to trick anyone? Maybe after the first announcement, they decided it best to make a decision this year instead of keeping it sitting around even longer than it has already?

While, yes SOPA sucks, it's highly doubtful that it will pass. All of the other Internet censorship bills were put down, why is this one any different?

EDIT: Also I see no LEGIT news source talking about how they "changed their minds" all of the legit places say it's still postponed.

It's different because the American people has an affinity for FREAKING OUT about something that never comes to pass, or is less severe than is thought. Part of this is because no one is capable of looking at something objectively, and, much like the people who are supposed to, no one reads the actual bill and instead believes exactly what someone on the internet tells them.

I'm going to be frank here: If SOPA is passed, what is anyone actually going to do about it? Probably nothing except passive-aggressively whine about it on social networking sites, or use secondhand systems to get uncaring representatives to give a shit about those they represent. Then, like clockwork, the same people who pass a bill like this will be re-elected because we know ****-all about actually exacting a change in our government.

EDIT: Damn it, Venser! The internet told me so! Clearly you're wrong, as if it's on the internet and people are up in arms about it it MUST be true!

I have nothing left to say about congress and the senate other then this. WE have a struggling economy, lack of jobs, and a rising national debt.

And by for some reason our government spends more time making high definition television a law, taxing pop, and now censorship of the internet x.x!

What the hell is our government doing when there in session besides debating point after point with no resolution. Sheesh we need a revisement of our current government there just wasting time and soon there wont be a country left to save.

I can't believe I'm linking to Reddit to rebut the insanity , but this person clearly knows more than me and anyone else who thinks they know what 'mark-up' means in context:

http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/ngbk3/fixed_sopa_has_not_been_postponed_to_2012_the/

SFW.

So, basically, our system works, and as other nonsense bills of the past (Patriot Act excluded), it'll die before it even reaches the floor. Of course, just because it'll die before it does anything doesn't mean people won't freak out about it.

---

I keep saying this, and it bears repeating: To hell with the presidential race (Paul 2012). While it's important, it's not nearly as important as making sure we are represented not by an elite class of lawyers, but by fellow citizens who know what we want and will strive to deliver that. If your idea of voting is not paying attention and then voting for whoever looks cooler or more personable, you're doing it wrong. Pay attention to their issues and their voting record (if they have one), and leave questions about his religion, skin color, personality, and background out of your decision.
This is called "being informed", and quite frankly if more of America would strive for it I'd be able to better suppress my urge to strangle people.

EDIT: Also, you don't have a right to a job. I don't know where people keep getting that idea.

Does the United States even have a news station or something that DOESN'T focus on those but on Actual vote records?

As for the markups, well that is a great sigh of relief actually. The fact that it is being marked up is still sad, but atl east this is not a fast one being pulled. (Just got free time to look @ the news about this tonight, TY Sekiria. Also in lamens terms, "Mark-ups" are for legislation, to what "Editing" is for writing a 5 page paper.)

I work at a college, and holy crap!! Your school records might be safe from other people with FERPA laws, but if someone wants your info under the patriot act because you Google-d "terrorism" or "chemical warfare" to write a paper is dumb. While these things laws might seem dumb and will not ever pass, why is the patriot act standing out? Or "McCarthy-ism" or other things like the red scare. Granted those are in the past, but stupid shit still does happen, and it just plain should not.

Also If he ever ran for president, Bernie Sanders+1! just saying.

There is a possibility of this, especially considering the nature of 'when America sneezes, Europe catches a cold.' Granted, this depends on whether or not individual nations believe in censorship, but there's also a chance the federal government of the USA will strong-arm other nations into cooperating.

With luck, SOPA will die in committee, and that's all we'll ever hear of it.

I will say this, though: the recent trend of the Obama Administration is unsettling. Hypocrisy, lies, the potential signing of the NDAA, and now SOPA is even being considered and not laughed out of congress? We need a change of guard, and fast. Otherwise the USA will descend into tyranny not unlike that of George III, and the whole world could follow.
