Let me start off saying: THIS IS NOT A DEBATE THREAD. This is a SUGGESTION.

In short, GTB is a card that almost completely nullifies 3 classes (Mages+Priest) and part of 1 (Ninja). MANY, MANY people have complained, but nothing was accepted as a "good" balance to the card. So I'm gonna make some suggestions. Feel free to add in ideas, comment on mine/others, or even disagree with changing, but DO NOT CHANGE THE TOPIC INTO A "stop complaining" THREAD. That's all I ask, thank you.

1) Effect: +99 Mdef
Cost: +50% SP consumption
Analysis: This, in effect, STILL nullifies the majority of all magic damage, BUT does not make it impossible for magic to win against a GTB if one is smart. Even rich HighWiz-owners will be virtually unfazed. On the plus side, it also allows for buffs to be used on oneself. However, the added vulnerability to skills like Dispel and Coma led me to reduce the SP consumption. Also, it's nice to add that Mdef reduces the time it takes to break free from Freeze and Stone Curse.

2) Effect: Allow usage of Level 7 Kaite (or Level 9 through some GM-hacking =P)
Cost: +50% SP Consumption
Analysis: The addition of Kaite is perhaps even MORE powerful than a nullify effect. Being able to just walk into an SG and just own a Wiz is 10x more powerful than being able to walk and nothing happens. And it can reflect twice! (or 3 times at level 9, I believe) HOWEVER, this does NOT make one unbeatable, as a smart magic user can make their way around this. This cannot be used on another person because they need to have Soul Linker Spirit...which they cannot get, thus keeping the balance Razz Again, the added vulnerability leads me to lower SP consumption, as well as the fact that it takes 70 SP for each cast.

3) Effect: Reduce all magical damage by 90%
Cost: +75% SP consumption
Analysis: While this seems very similar to the +99 Mdef, it is leagues different. In THIS case, there's no way around the damage reduction, EXCEPT by increasing your OWN damage. However this still provides a SIGNIFICANT protection that is NOT game-breaking; a 10k JT (that means 120k total), a very POWERFUL JT, is reduced to a decently sized but not great 1k JT (12k total). Because there's no way around this, the SP consumption is slightly increased, but reduced from 100% because it gives some vulnerability.

4) Effect: Increase resistance to Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind by 50% each
Cost: Reduce resistance to Holy, Shadow, Undead, Poison, Ghost, and Neutral by 50% each, and -50 Def.
Analysis: Of course, 80% of all skills consist of one of the "4 elements", so this should be sufficient to reduce most magic. However, it is important to keep in mind that this will no longer become a magic-only card, as people will seek to use this to reduce physical attacks as well. This is where the other elements come into play, especially neutral, and the -50 Def is no laughing matter either. I didn't exactly think this particular suggestion through, but it could always be fit into another form that's more appealing.

5) Effect: Reflect Single Target magic back at the caster (Success Chance 100%)
Cost: +50% SP consumption
Analysis: A 50% more reliable Maya that STILL severely debillitates classes like Ninja and even Prof somewhat, but they are not IMPOSSIBLE to defeat with these magic classes, allowing a more likely chance of survival with difficulty. I think the cost is fair as well.

I like 1 and 2. 1) i like this idea cause if they get hit theres a chance they will be frozen and such so gives wiz a lil more of a chance. 2) i just think it would be neat to use that skill on other classes lol xD could make things worse but it would most certainly be sexy.

I'm sure that Luzz wants to keep this server as close as iRO as possible, so I doubt this will happen. I personally think GTB is fine the way it is, I've played Mage classes and have been annoyed at GTB/Maya, but I just go on another character and fight.

I like 1, 4, and 3

I had personal experience on a different server with the 90% Reduction one and it worked out VERY nicely on that server. Idk about one, it seems kind of lacking compared to 3 and 4 but it might be worth a shot.

Also Ren didnt read the original post =(

Have you guys considered how much damage magic does? Did you also know that Magic classes aren't actually designed to PvP (alone*)? There is a reason GTB is like it is.

*Magic casters like Wizard and Scholar are meant to PvP along-side other classes, usually a Priest and/or damaging-classes like Assassin or Sniper. Yes, teaming.

This is absolutely correct, in my opinion.

Very nice ideas, GV, as they do provide a similar effect to the GTB card's while changing the other functions not related to damage.

However, it is my opinion that magic users in Ragnarok were intended to have an effectiveness more like an "On/Off Switch" than that of some kind of variable slider. Golden Thief Bug card, as well as a few other things, is the Off Switch.

The intended drawback is the negation of even friendly magic. To allow buffs and healing while still retaining most of the effectiveness of a GTB card would, at least in my eyes, actually create an even greater imbalance problem.

Thanks for the thoughts, but I must continue to vote that this card's effect remain as it is. Smile

Then how about only have it have the change in PvP? In WoE, it's fair game, because you're actually competing for something, but in PvP, I think it does at least warrant SOME change.

And while I do see what you are both saying, this server clearly does not allow this to be true. Wizards and Profs, though they may have been DESIGNED to PvP alone, clearly do not. Since this server negates the Mage Classes' role to "Support, not Stand Alone", I think that GTB should be changed in respect to this new aspect of the class.

For the record, this isn't me complaining "gtb so op". I only suggested this because this is actually how I feel, and that by changing GTB there may be more of an increase in magic users. I myself have mained Champ, among others. I can say that the last time I used my Wiz was the last day the Banana Hat Day was, and that was a LONG time ago. It just isn't worth it, since so many people have GTB. I really think this is a good idea, not specifically these suggestions but the concept of the change itself.

Oh, OK. I don't really care what things work or not in the PvP room... xD I personally don't spend time there. It would be a very difficult task, though, to cause a single card to have a different effect on different maps. Confused
