The Diplomacy Mini-Guide
also known as The Anti-Drama Guide
also known as The How-Not-To-Be-An-Ass Guide

There are many guides for RO - from guides on how to play a certain class to how to make zeny, to how to battle better. In addition to all this, it is also important for players to learn how to be more diplomatic in-game and here on the website, as this will create a more enjoyable experience for everyone. The ability to diffuse disagreements or know how to gather respect from fellow players are skills that are just as important, if not more, than knowing how to create a MVP weapon or knowing how to make a headgear.

This guide is based on my own personal experiences, and the lessons I have learned along the way as I navigate down the river of life. Your mileage may vary.

Without further ado:

Luzz's Guide to Diplomacy, and inter-personal relations (may also apply to Real Life)

How to be dipomatic

1. Listed first for a reason - this is the most imporant rule to diplomacy. ALWAYS think before you speak. If you can learn to do this, you can prevent yourself from getting into most sticky situations, and getting out of sticky situations others caused.

2. Never judge people. It does not matter what color, sex, age, wealth, or how smart a person is. The reality is - it is impossible for you to be in someone else's shoes.

3. Ignore people you do not like. I repeat - Ignore people you do not like.

4. Always be considerate. Though impossible to be in someone else's shoes, IMAGINE how you would feel in someone else's shoes.

5. You are NOT always right, so respect other people's opinions. The more you try to prove someone wrong, the more likely someone smarter than you will do the same to you.

6. If you do not have something nice to say, keep it to yourself. If you can communicate it as constructive criticism, go ahead. Never insult people (not even if you are 10 years old)

7. Do not cuss or curse. Learn when it is appropriate to use such language (HINT- the less you use them the more powerful they are coming from you). This also shows you are able to communicate intelligently and effectively without using these overused words.

8. Always say nice things to people, and always appreciate people's time. Many times, people often focus too much on a person's negative qualities while ignoring their positive qualities.

9. Do not be condescending.

10 . Know your limits, and know when not to talk. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt" -- Famous Person.

11. Respect.

How to react to conflict

1. Think your argument(s) before stating them. Do not spurt random statements of rage because they are nothing more than the result of irrational anger. Not only will your arguments have less merit, but you'll appear pretty silly.

2. More is less. State what you have to state (and it better be smart!), and leave it alone. The public will then form their own judgement and opinions.

3. Be mature. Name calling and insults only make you appear childish.

4. Always try to resolve personal issues with other people privately (Unless everyone is in on it). The world is not your ear for personal vendettas

5. Ignore pointless conflict. Pick your battles wisely, and know whose opinion you value, and whose opinion you can disregard. If you can realize that 99% of conflict in your life is unnecessary, and thus ignore and avoid them, you'll be able to live relatively stress-free.

6. Give everyone a chance (but never let the same person fool you twice), regardless of the issue. Know that people have bad days. It is not an excuse, but everyone have limits.

7. Respect.

Again, this list is from my own life experiences. You may or may not agree with the points I am trying to make. Add to this guide as you see fit.

This post is not meant to be flame fodder.
