Currently I am at a hotel bout half an hour away from my house, due to the fact last night after I logged off we had a power outage. It was from one H of an ice storm. So since I have a 3 year old sister we all went to a hotel. Hopefully we will have power tomarow, if not I have no idea what we are doing this hotel is a one night thing....

And yes they have a public computer for use. So I'm going on my emails and fave sites and posting what has happened~

Anyone else live in the New York, Connecticut area having power problems or flooding problems?

That sounds incredibly shitty. Illinois just got over a bunch of snow/ice storms, and a pretty intense blizzard that shut most of Chicago land Illinois down.

Luckily our legion of snow plows and salt trucks cleared the way.

Well it's not the travel, that is cleared away before dawn. But the power is the bad part! >.< Though I really like this place, my dad says we will have to find a cheaper hotel if we need to stay another night away from the house.

we have a snowstorm on it's way to ohio so we might have power problems if it's as bad as they are expecting.

Ouch that sounds bad. Any idea if your going to get some ice with that? If it's just snow you might luck out. But if there is ice you might wanna fill your bathtub up with water, buy some water jugs and some drink stuff and food you don't have to cook. Also buy flashlights that uses cheap batteries, buy candles to have in each used bedroom, bathroom, and living room. (DO NOT USE A CANDLE IN ALL ROOMS!!! THIS WILL INCREASE RISK OF FIRE!) Also try not to use your left over water! If you have dogs and you put them in cages make sure to have towels or blankets at the bottem especialy for extended power outages in winter!

Admins/Mods Please not the tip I am giving is a serious tip I hope you do not get offended! This is extreamly important tip for those who must go without power for an extended time.

A tip I have for the toilett is fill up bathtub with water, keep a big bucket next to the toilet and when you go to the bathroom after a few uses flush it and start filling the toillet with water from the bathtub. This way you will not destroy your pipes. NOTE: Do not flush every time you use the toillet just flush after every few uses unless you go number 2!

Now that's all the tips I can think of in winter. A last note is to make all your purchases before the storm incase the stores also loose power. If you have children especially from ages 0 to 10 try to make a hotel purchase. If you don't have much money then try to find a family member in a safe region that can host you for some time (these two tips are only needed if you are not going to have power for night time). Also those with money should purchase a generator and get it proffessionaly installed

Anyone else that has tips please post this should be good for others to know.

I just learned all day today and tomarow we will have rain, this yet again gives us a risk of another ice storm tonight. I pray that doesn't happen!

they havent said anything about ice but you never know.

if we get ice then it's almost guaranteed we'll lose power for a bit.

Hilariously enough, my idiot step dad did the SAME THING, the machine was still running, and he REACHED INTO THE WHIRLING BLADES WHICH WERE JUST BARELY HELD BACK BY ICE. Needless to say he blamed the manufacturer, because they built the snowblower with a hunger for human flesh and blood apparently...

Needless to say, we have no snowblower, I am become snow blower, destroyer of snow.

New Jersey is flooded. Will anyone notice or miss it?

Just kidding. Always have a hand crank flashlight and battery operated radio around the house at all times. You'll be amazed at how important light is when you are without it.

(Back in the great NYC blackout of 2003, it was dark city-wide. My PDA screen was my source of light as I walked 10 of the 20 miles home from work.)

Hope you're back up and running!
