Well I've played on two servers, Intense and Reign, and never had music but I had the sound effects. When I logged in to play at my girlfriend's place her version had music. So what I'm wondering is what setting I need to change so I have music when I play.

Open up the options box while logged on. Alt+ O. Check to see if your BGM/Music box is checked. If you wish for music, and it's not checked, then you know what to do.
