So, my computer reboots itself everytime I try to run the game, I have tried reinstalling and redownloading several times (without download managers), it only happens with this game, and I have played RO before in other servers in the same computer. Here's my specs:
- Windows XP Pro SP2
- Pentium 4 2.60 GHz
- 1 GB RAM
- GeForce FX 5600 |

When exactly does it reboot? I had a case a few days ago similar to this. If it restarts just after you click start in the patch client, after the main window pops up, you are likely experiencing video card driver issues (in my case it was this). reinstalling them solved this crashing issue and improved my performance.
If you haven't, i would uninstall your current drivers and reinstall the freshest release, as linked: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html
If this doesn't fix it, ensure you have run the setup app in the reign folder to ensure your settings are correct.
If that doesn't work, ensure your system isn't compromised by malicious programs, or worse, failing system components, such as GPU, CPU, Memory, and even power supply. _________________

Yes it's right after I click start, I'll try reinstalling my drivers.
Thank you for the reply. |

As stated by other players, this could be an issue with your video card drivers or perhaps your DirectX files are corrupt. Try to reinstall both.
Random reboots, many times, can also be a sign of overheating, or overstressing of your computer. Make sure all your fans are running properly.
Lastly, try a Malwarebytes scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org.
Good luck =) _________________ Support Reign Online by voting! |

Also a tip to see if this is indeed a crash is to shut off automatic restarts on blue screen in windows. I had no idea it was my Nv_display.dll Driver till I re-enabled blue screens, it tells you what the offending program, driver, or malware caused the crash.
To turn off automatic restarts on crash click start>Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab> Under Startup and Recovery uncheck the automatic restart box.
Now the next time this restart occurs instead of restarting you'll recive a BSOD (Blue screen of death) Showing what caused the crash. That way you can move from there.
P.S To the original poster I have the same GFX card as you do. Further proving that it may be the same issue i've had. |

Well I have reinstalled the drivers but same thing still happens, I'm pretty sure it's not overheating since I can run much heavier games and apps without any problems at all, and besides the game won't even run as it reboots right as I try to start it.
I also ran malware bytes and a virus scan and it's 100% clean.
So I pretty much ran out of ideas now .
Thank you for all the replys. |

Hmm i'm sorry to hear your having issues, did you try adjusting the settings in the game to see if it might be Screen resolution and such? I also doubt its a heating issuse It still sounds like that pesky driver, have you tried google searching the problem see if anyone else has had such an issue elseware? |

Yes I have tried messing with the settings, google searches point to the solutions given here, mostly the driver ones. And yes it does seem to be a driver issue, since I've had the same problem with Cabal Online a few years ago which was fixed by updating to the latest drivers at the time, however that didn't seem to work this time around . |

When was the last time you did an actual physical maintenance of your machine? as in, cracked open the case and removed all the dust and other particulates? I try to do this every month if possible. Remove the cpu fan (not the heat sink, hit it with compressed air, get all the accumulated mess out of the fins, do the same for the video if possible.
Inspect for any damaged board components, primarily capacitors, these alone can induce all sorts of problems should they start leaking.
it could also be a case of your power supply going bad, considering what sounds like you having an older system. It's typical for the voltages to become unstable and eventually become a very large paperweight. (cheap supplies may end up dying sooner, unless it's a quality brand and you don't design foolishly, (i try to never run my power supplies more than half what they're rated for the sake of preservation. If it's belching hot air even in a frigid room, this could be one sign of either impending failure or being overloaded)
if you don't see any damaged components on the board, i highly recommend backing up your important files to another drive and doing a full reinstall of windows. this should (theoretically) remove the software possibility. I tend to reinstall every year just to maintain a not so bogged down system, critical when your career requires a system that can perform under heavy stress without balking once. _________________

The last clean up and fresh windows install was about a year ago, I'm not computer literate enough to play with the components myself so I don't get to do it that often, and usually only do when the system starts to slow down or gets too cluttered or shows signs of some major issue. And yes it is an old system and could really use an upgrade, I've been delaying it since so far it's good enough for my needs so I'll wait some more time before investing money on it, maybe when diablo 3 comes out or if starcraft 2 turns out to be as good as the first...
Meanwhile I guess I'll have to find something else to play. |
