Obviously, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in June 1914 was the immediate cause of of war breaking out that August, but how did a conflict that began between Serbia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire turn into such a massive conflict that plunged all of the powers of Europe into total war? I have this feeling that the cause should be commensurate in magnitude with the effect. So I ask you, Reign RO, what were the factors that lead to the outbreak of the first world war? |

Well I'll tell you what wasn't the cause, contrary to popular belief.
