I'm not an expert on hands. But I'll give you my knowledge on what I know.

As you can see in this small picture I've drawn quickly, hands are all just shapes. Just like stickmen. The palm is a square and the fingers are lines or sticks. The red circle, is to show that anime, has many realistic faults. If we were to draw real hands, that line would not be there, and details of the palm would be more noticeable. (You can get away with a couple stuff. *Snicker*)

The best would be to take your sketch book around, and draw your hands in weird angles. All of them in stickmen form first, and later once you've got that pretty solid, go onto drawing the "meat". I usually ask my mom to model her hand for me when I've gotten pretty stuck, she kinda likes it. Lol!

Also, don't feel down if people criticize you. As an artist, this is actually what you hope for to get better. People have noticed faults in my drawings I have not and they have helped me improve. The best artists are the ones who don't give up, and practice.
