If you shoot someone, you're gonna get a trial and probably go to jail. Doesn't mean that they sell guns to anyone though, right?
It's MUCH better to save everyone the trouble (GMs and players alike) by nipping it in the butt BEFORE something breaks loose rather than to punish AFTER it happens.

adam i love you but this is an asinine statement. and yes in some parts of the world you can buy a gun with little to no effort.
and there is NO way to predict peoples behavior. but if you go around just taking away rights because you THINK people will be douchebags then your defeating the purpose of freedom of speech. I mean think about this in a real world setting. some kid complains at school about a bully calling him names, so the state they live in BANNS all talking, and theres no way around it. sounds crazy right. cause it is.
and yes id rather punish the guilty cause the fk ing law in america is your innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. WE Have rules, so its up to the GM's to enforce them. So if anything get mad at the GM's for not enforcing them than changing a damn rule cause you cant turn the other cheek or take screen shots.
sorry im pissed cause EVERYONE wants to change something about this damn game cause its in their best interest. I can personally deal with idiots in pvp.

I also agree with what Cad just said, everyone wants to change something about the game because it's in their best interest. Now don't call my a hippocrate because of my previous attempts at trying to ban gtb, I gave up on that plight because it was useless. Back on topic, I'm done with my reply. ;D

Wrong! You said compare it to a real world setting.
I am not suggesting banning all talking. If was a perfect comparison it would be, the bully can talk to classmates(guild?) and friends(party,PM) only. That way the bullying can't spread far.
This is not in my best interest either. I'd prefer normal talk too. I am trying to save gms time here.
Gtb - I have one, I don't play magic anymore. Most definitely not in my best interest, I was thinking of newbs and such.
Come to think of it, none of my suggestions are for self benefit and I don't think I can thinknof many at all from other posters either for self benefit.

/offtopic I don't have a gtb but I know enough about the game to get an gtb effect without one >_> and no Im not telling what it is. Also it seems like there is a huge increase in both gtb and maya D: ; Also I think I'm still the only person who always uses a mage character, I'm always on it 8D. /offtopicend
But anyways back on topic now. I still don't see the reason for banning chat in pvp, it's as easy as ignoring what the person is saying or @ex or /ex the person.

Very Wrong Magical Stu hits that pvp up quite often Sir! But i say lets not get off topic into a GTB argument/discussion.
Have you ever thought about who has to disable certain things in certain areas or how hard it could be to disable speaking in one specific place?
This might not even be possible.
But lets say it was. You cannot apply a real world setting to ragnarok. It is a game of fantasy and magic, and it has GM's to maintain it. Glen i see your point, i do, but think about this.
Whats BAD about this idea? Youde save the gms report time, and give them more complain time. New players would hate it it might cause them to leave, this kinda of decision needs to be thought out in all aspects. PErsonally i think theres more wrongs then right here, despite it being a good idea.

Didn't feel like reading ALL the chat but I looked at most of it... /ex blocks PMs, Right click the person and click "reject whispers" or w/e it is called will block everything that person says. Just a little note. ^^ (Duno if that was already said or not... didn't see it tho so yah.) |

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, as a matter of fact...
There's a command /nm thats the same as /exall, but for general chat.
Maybe we could modify that so that there is a /nm "Name" and /nmall command?

I still think that its a bit too much of a step. I think this thread is a bit pointless, like disabling @sleep in pvp. I think what we should all remember is that no mercy has a sign that says. @sleep if you dont want to die. And if they do and talk shit. Ask to stop, Screen shot, report. Simple enough o_o. you might be saving the gms time but you might be adding it too
