Well, I figured I'd ask the server if anyone here has ever thought out a logical theory of time travel, I'm actually serious about this btw but not for any type of real world applications. I also decided to bring it up since I happen to really enjoy the subject and it's a vital role in my comic series. And since I know nothing is free in life (not even information is really free, but I'll explain that later >.>) I'll post my opening theory and see if anyone else posts their own or contradicts mine. ^_^

I believe that if time travel were discovered, by any [b]living[/b] being, they wouldn't be able to change the past beyond the point of which they first obtained time travel in their history. The logic behind this? Time Traveler's Immunity. I'll use this time-line/example to explain this better:

1987ish - XDogg is born.
1993, october 10th, 2 pm - XDogg loses his left eye and the ability to balance himself properly.
1993, october 12th, 4 am - XDogg gains time traveling powers.
1996 - XDogg loses his right arm. <- At this point XDogg now goes back to 1996 and warns himself of the impending danger, thus allowing him to keep his arm. And the time line splits off to create this new future where XDogg still has both arms.

Using that example, I can show that XDogg can't go back to before 1993, october 10th 2 pm to save his left eye. Why? Because this would alter the future in which he has time traveling powers and thus a paradox would be created (kinda like being your own grandfather, it just doesn't work.) Also, time traveling in my opinion (in a fictional world mind you) would work both ways, kinda like back to the future, where you can go back and forth, but any changes in the past would alter the future you end up in. As opposed to the terminator style of time traveling where it's one way only and there's no ways back, except to live it out again.

So opinions anyone? Theories?

IMO, it wouldnt be possible, largely due to a "paradox" which you stated.

Time travel is a contradiction, it wouldnt work. If you went back to save yourself from something, that means in your current time someone would have come to warn you before it even happened, thus it should never have happened in the first place. It would be an endless cycle with no beginning.

Time travel is a touchy subject :S

o.o....time travel in my mind is confusing. It involves other parallel worlds that have all the choices u make in life and their outcomes n stuff.

My theory is that time travel will NOT end up having some stupid bad outcome like a worm hole or any of that shit...i dont even see how that could happen..
but instead it would just be a whole complicated universe with people who use time travel for good and.."Bad" reasons...

my theory is that no paradoxes will be created. essentially, there is just one universe, and everything that happens, whether there be time travel or not, is not/will not be contradictory.

sort of, even if you did get time-traveling powers, you will not alter the past because you just cant.

if ur making a story out of it, better stick with this one theory. it's a tried and tested theory that works. for a better grasp on the effects, causes and consequences, refer to the Oedipus Rex myth

well if you believe in the multi reality theory then you would just create another alternate dimension when you went back. of course i believe that time travel backwards isn't possible. Why? cause those events happen and time is only in existence cause the world is spinning and we see the sun and moon, thus time exist cause humans made it up. So to go back to a specific point would be extremely hard and if done would prob have to be done with some kinda wormhole portal or something. Now...on to the future~ . time travel to the future is possible. In fact we have a smaller version called cryogenics or being frozen then woke up. Kinda like that movie with stallone and wesly snipes. shesh cant think of it. *runs to wikipedia* Demolition Man...thats right duh.
